I wake up with Ohl’s naked body draped around mine. Light filters in from outside, illuminating her perfect curves.

Last night was perfect. I’ve never felt a connection like that, like our two hearts were one. I wish we could stay in this bed all day. My body yearns for a repeat performance, but we are not on Aegon.

This is Xi’Jek, and mercenaries will find us, sooner rather than later. Even sleeping in like this has been a huge risk, but my body needed time to recover from the wounds I’ve sustained.

Also, I just wanted to cuddle with my human female for as long as possible. It’s strange, how much I need her by my side.

I told myself I’d never love again, not after the purge, but the small human has managed to tear down the walls I’ve erected around my cold heart.

I am not relieved. No. I am afraid.

Now Zakra has another way to hurt me. He will not rest until he’s crushed me completely, and so I should not rest either.

I squeeze Ohl’s round behind.

“Wake up, beauty.”

“Hmfph?” She snores.

She’s even cute when she’s sleeping. Unbelievable. I let her sleep for a moment longer. She needs it.

I’ve kept her up all night, after all.
